Rebuilding from the midway point

So, wow, it’s been a while! Phew. Pardon the dust.

The explanation is the same as it has been before: the daily grind of life, along with the general anxieties and uncertainties that come along with it. Things go up, things go down, we muddle through. I’ve bounced back and forth between beadwork and trying to regain my writing momentum. Beadwork is honestly very satisfying because when I’m done, I have a tactile piece that I can wear or give away. (I even have an instagram now to show off.)

But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been writing. With the announcement of Less Than Three’s closing, I’ve done some reassessment. I’m not at rock bottom — far from it! — but I’ve still got to rebuild from the midway point. It’s a bittersweet feeling. Less Than Three Press was an incredibly positive place and experience for me, and I will always be grateful that they took a chance on my stories. I’d like to keep those pieces in circulation!

I’d also like to write more. The hardest part about being an author, for me, is the actual shill, the part where one isn’t just responsible for the writing and revisions, but for getting one’s name out there. I have a twitter and don’t touch it. Despite my best attempts at curation, it absolutely overwhelms me. I know plenty of people overcome that, and I respect them for it… but I want to juggle my efforts where I want them the most.

With that in mind, I’ve been mulling over some options. My game plan currently stands at:

  • Get my old Less Than Three pieces back up. Ideally, I’d like to go over them again, do some revisions now that it’s been at least a year for all of them. Doing some edits and expansions sounds fun.
  • Get some more original pieces posted. Right now, I have four things finished: a short story in the edits, another that needs a reread before I send it to be edited, and two novel-length pieces that also need the same.
  • Do some restructuring of this site. I’d like to say I’ll be blogging more regularly, but for now, it’s all one day at a time.

Not too bad for roughly four months left in the year. Wish me luck!
